Morocco to buy 3000 e-buses ahead of 2030 World Cup

Morocco is seeking to buy 7,000 buses ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Club which it will host. The country has already issued a tender to buy 1,317 buses, out of which 30 are electric. Morocco’s Minister for Industry and Trade has pledged that at least half of the remaining 6,000 buses will be electric.

  • The buses will be used for public transport. This is in preparation for the World Cup which the country will host in 5 years and which will attract millions of visitors from across the world. 

  • The North African country is working on investments to produce 400 kW urban electric buses that “today can be purchased between $180,000 and $200,000”.

Kenyan car dealer Autopax has launched an electric motorcycle dubbed Cheche. The motorcycle has a range of between 80 – 120 km on full charge. Autopax has partnered with Ghanaian battery swapping station provider Kofa and Chinese two-wheeler automaker TAILG to roll out the motorcycle targeting rural areas.

  • Kofa will build solar-powered battery swapping stations in select rural parts of Kenya to charge the motorcycles. The firm launched in Kenya in 2024 through a partnership with Autopax. 

  • The pilot phase will begin in the immediate outskirts of Nairobi before expanding into many rural areas ensuring that communities outside the capital can also benefit from electric motorcycles.

German luxury automaker Porsche has launched the all-electric Macan luxury compact SUV in Egypt. The cost of the Porsche Macan starts at $92,100, which is a mid-range price for luxury EVs in the country. The most expensive EV in Egypt is the Mercedes-Benz G 580 AMG – EQ, which has a price tag of $237,000.

  • The Porsche Macan is available in four versions: the Macan, the Macan 4, the 4S, and the Turbo. All models have a 95 kWh battery. The company also launched upgraded models of the 911 and Taycan to the Egyptian market.

  • The Macan Electric is Porsche's entry into the luxury electric SUV market. Porsche launched the car in Tunisia in January 2025, and in Mauritius and Reunion in December 2024.

  • Our take: Egypt has 15,600 US dollar millionaires and 52 centi-millionaires (wealth above $100 million).  The country’s wealthy population is tipped to grow further, which shows potential for a bigger luxury EVs market… Read more (2 min)
