Chinese EV maker BYD goes to Madagascar

The African market expansion by the Chinese manufacturing giant continues with the launch of the Yuan PLUS car model in Madagascar. This marks BYD's 12th African country, following the recent launch of the same model in Kenya in late September.
The all-electric SUV boasts impressive performance and cutting-edge technology, making it a compelling choice for eco-conscious drivers in Madagascar.
Speaking during the event, BYD’s Africa Regional Sales Director Yao Shu said, “We believe that the future of travel will be green, intelligent, and sustainable.”
More details
BYD is rapidly expanding and establishing its presence in Africa and other 5 continents. In September of this year, BYD launched in Zambia, South Africa, and Kenya.
This expansion has proven successful, with the company selling 33,012 electric vehicles outside of China in September, a 17.74% year-on-year growth.
The Yuan PLUS car model is also known as the BYD ATTO 3 overseas.
Our take
The entry of Chinese electric vehicles into the African market is only just taking off, and the recently imposed stringent tariffs by Europe and America, their primary markets, will likely motivate them to proactively target Africa.
